Céline Dion had a banner 2017. She attended her first Met Gala, became a true fashion icon, and reigned over the Billboard Music Awards with Cher. And despite an apparent bout with the horrific flu that’s been sweeping the country, she’s already kicking off 2018 with a surefire bang. Earlier this month, Dion got a visit from superfan Adele backstage at her Las Vegas show.
“I had a pretty rough time during the last couple of weeks,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “. . . A lot of people have been hit with cold and flu bugs . . . but I’m doing much better now. Wasn’t able to do all my shows, but was thrilled that Adele came to one of them . . . I love her so much!!”
Adorned in a shirt featuring Dion’s face and “My Heart Will Go On” on the sleeve, Adele posed with one hand on her hip and seemed to be pretty pleased to be in the presence of her fellow Grammy-winning queen of the stage. So pleased, in fact, she had already posted the shirt and her admiration for Céline on her own Instagram on January 13:
Last year, Adele wrapped up her own 123-show, global “Hello” tour, featuring songs from her Grammy-sweeping hit, 25. Though she sold out arenas all over the world, the singer said that tour might just be her last. She included a note in the program of her final show in London that explained why going on the road wasn’t something she particularly savors. A fan posted it on Instagram.
“I only ever did this tour for you and to hopefully have an impact on you the way that some of my [favorite] artists have had on me live,” she wrote. “And I wanted my final shows to be in London because I don’t know if I’ll ever tour again, and so I want my last time to be at home.”
Adele, this is a plea to reconsider. Take Céline, go on tour together. Wear lots of glittery eye shadow and shut every night down with a joint, dramatic “shall we go for it?” before you belt out one final, perfectly harmonious note. The world will never know what hit it.
