Will there be a Grenfell tower tribute song?

Adele is currently the favourite to be Christmas No 1  with a tribute song for the victims of Grenfell tower.

The 29-year-old doesn’t currently have a single out but is thought to be releasing a dedication any day now, after tirelessly campaigning to help those affected by the fire.

Bookies William Hill think she’s a likely contender for number one, after her odds have been slashed from 25/1 to 2/1 in just 24 hours.

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: “The latest rumour is that Adele may be singing a tribute for Grenfell Tower and the price has contracted in an almost unprecedented manner.”

Other contenders for the top spot are Ed Sheeran at 8/1, Mariah Carey at 6/1 and Rak Su at 10/1.

If she does release a single, it is likely to be released next week.

Did Adele attend the Grenfell memorial service?

On December 14, 2017, Adele, who is supporting a Grenfell Tower Inquiry that gives survivors more confidence in the probe, attended the memorial service at St Paul's Cathedral.

The award-wining singer took an early interest in the aftermath of the blaze.

At around 1am on June 15, she paid a low-key visit to the site, staying for around 15 minutes.

Pictures of the star, who was born in Tottenham, north London, later emerged on Twitter.

Six days after the tragedy, she surprised firefighters when she turned up to thank them for their work, by banging on the window and offering cake.

The 29-year-old star visited firefighters for "a cup of tea and a cuddle" and joined them in a minute's silence at a fire station in Chelsea.

Speaking previously about the encounter with the British star, firefighter Rob Petty said: “Not everyday the wonderfully grounded and caring Adele pops into Chelsea Fire Station for a cup of tea and a cuddle."

She also hosted a private screening of Despicable Me 3 for children affected by the blaze.

And Adele – who has four-year-old son Angelo with her partner Simon Konecki – has even called for donations to be made to the Grenfell Tower victims during her recent concert at London’s Wembley Stadium.

What happened at Grenfell Tower?

A large fire broke out in the building just after 1am on the morning of Wednesday June 14 2017.

It spread quickly to cover an area from around the second floor to the top floor.

There are 120 homes in the tower block, with at least 350 people thought to be inside when the blaze began. Some were still trapped hours later.

Desperate people trapped inside the large building were heard screaming for help as the fire took hold.

Horrified witnesses said they could see people waving sheets out of the windows as they called to be rescued, with some jumping from the building.

71 people died in the blaze.
